NEW! Junior Congregation

Astoria Center of Israel is excited to announce the start of our brand-new Junior Congregation service beginning on Shabbat, October 1, 2016.  This program will be led by Ze’eva Berman, an engaging and experienced teacher with strong Judaic and music backgrounds.  We know she will make a wonderful addition to our outstanding education staff.

The Junior Congregation service will run from 10:30-11:30am, and will be held on alternate Shabbat mornings in the chapel (immediately to the left as you enter the synagogue). A full schedule will be made available on our website. TheJunior Congregation service is limited to children in grades K-3.  As this drop-off Junior Congregation service is exclusively for the children, parents are encouraged to proceed to the main sanctuary for our regular Shabbat services after bringing their children to the chapel.  Having parents present at the Junior Congregation service often poses a distraction and can interfere with the flow of that service.  Parents of Junior Congregation participants must remain inside ACI for the duration of the service.  At the conclusion of the Junior Congregation service, Morah Ze’eva will bring the children in to the main sanctuary to join the full congregation for Adon Olam and Hinei Ma Tov.

On the other Shabbat mornings, Morah Ze’eva will continue our Tot-Shabbat program from 10:45-11:30am. The age range for Tot Shabbat is infant through grade K, and at least one parent must stay with their child for the duration of the program.  The Tot Shabbat format will be in the same tradition that Lisa Goldberg had, with music, songs, movement activities, and of course, Mitzvah Man!  The first Tot Shabbat program for this year will be on Saturday morning September 24 at 10:45am.

All families are welcome to have their children attend either (or both!) of these wonderful and engaging programs whether or not they are members. That being said, there is a significant expense to running these expanded programs. We therefore request that families who wish to attend either of these programs, help support them with a donation. You can make a one-time or ongoing contribution via our website and select the level that meets your budget. Your financial assistance is vital in helping these new programs flourish and endure!

We are excited about the continuation of our Tot-Shabbat program and the start of our new Junior Congregation, and are looking forward to seeing you and your families join us!
