Open Door Shabbat

Shabbat morning is the best time for Jews to come together, and the WORST time to feel out of place in synagogue.

Join the ACI once a month for a no-experience-necessary Shabbat service, where we will explore the:

  • Structure of a prayer experience
  • Meaning behind key Jewish prayers
  • How to sing when you don't know Hebrew

Don't know Hebrew? No problem!

Skeptical about religion? We'd love to have you!

Haven't gone to synagogue since your Bar/Bat Mitzvah? You're perfect!

Join us from 10:30 am until noon on March 16, April 13, May 11, and June 22. At 10:00, there will be a brief meditation service, and at 10:30 we will start the learning service.

If you have any questions, contact Rabbi Josh at [email protected].

Attendance at all sessions is not required; sign up at the link below.

Community Narcan Training on March 16

In a world in which 12 people overdose every single hour (yes, even in and especially in our Jewish community), the V’Ahavta Initiative declares that learning how to save a life is part of what it means to walk through the world lovingly.

During Shabbat services on March 16, we will be hosting a brief Narcan training with Selah.

Tot Shabbat is Now Weekly!

We're thrilled to announce that our Tot Shabbat programming is now weekly! Join the fun with Morah Shana, Morah Cara, and other teaching staff every week at 11am, as we celebrate Shabbat with the smallest members of our families.

This Week In Hebrew School

Classes began the unit on Purim!

Hebrew Language

All three classes incorporated more movement based activities this week by playing a Hebrew game called “Shimon Omer” (Simon says), learning and acting out the words for sit, run, stand, dance, jump, and stop.

Kitah Aleph also watched a short entertaining video of a vendor selling items that begin with the letter “bet”.

Both Kitot Bet and Gimmel read and reviewed Hebrew words associated with Purim.
Kitah Gimmel asked for “the most challenging words you can give us to read in Hebrew” one of which was אנציקלופדיה.

Arts and Music

Kitah Gimmel performed an improvisational play reenacting the story of Purim that they recalled from last year. Bet and Gimmel students sang Purim songs and talked about the characters from Megillat Esther. Kitah Aleph students sang Purim songs and read a Purim story.

Judaic Studies

Kitah Aleph learned an Israeli song “Leytzanim Ketanim” (ליצנים קטנים) or “little clowns”, and we began a crafts activity making individual clowns for our Purim carnival on March 24th.

Kitah Bet and Gimmel students reviewed the historical background to the Purim story and learned in depth how there came to be a Jewish population in the land of Persia 2,500 years ago after the Babylonian expulsion. More details can be found here.

Two months ago, our Hebrew School also began small group Hebrew language instruction designed to help new Kitah Bet and Gimmel students master the Hebrew alphabet. The class is run by volunteers and is held during the 35 minute language component.

Finally, students congregated in the main sanctuary after class with Rabbi Josh for the T’fillah portion of our program.
