Open Door Shabbat

Shabbat morning is the best time for Jews to come together, and the WORST time to feel out of place in synagogue.

Join the ACI once a month for a no-experience-necessary Shabbat service, where we will explore the:

  • Structure of a prayer experience
  • Meaning behind key Jewish prayers
  • How to sing when you don't know Hebrew

Don't know Hebrew? No problem!

Skeptical about religion? We'd love to have you!

Haven't gone to synagogue since your Bar/Bat Mitzvah? You're perfect!

Join us from 10:30 am until noon on April 13, May 11, and June 22. At 10:00, there will be a brief meditation service, and at 10:30 we will start the learning service.

If you have any questions, contact Rabbi Josh at [email protected].

Attendance at all sessions is not required; sign up at the link below.

This Week In Hebrew School

In Judaic studies, Kita Alef read the story of Moses growing up in Pharaoh’s house. That upon discovering his Hebrew roots and defending a slave being mistreated by an Egyptian, Moses flees Egypt, fearful that his capital offense would be discovered.

Students learned how Moses settles in the land of Midian and becomes a shepherd. It is then that God reveals himself to Moses, asks him to demand that Pharaoh free the Hebrews from bondage, and visits the Egyptians with 10 plagues when Pharaoh refuses. Students learned each of the plagues and reviewed the Mah Nishtanah.

Kita Bet students learned that the word Seder means order, and proceeded to review the 15 steps of the Haggadah and the customs performed in each step. They also sang the Mah Nishtanah and Dayenu songs.

Kita Gimmel students reviewed the 15 steps of the seder as well as the symbols that are associated with Passover. Students also reviewed songs from the Haggadah and learned the one titled “Who knows One” featured towards the end of the seder. They then finished their illustrations of the pyramids that the Hebrews built for Pharaoh.

In Art class, all three classes showed what they knew about the afikoman (which matzah we break, what portion of it is hidden and when it’s eaten). Then every student had a chance to create and decorate their own afikoman bag which they will take home next Tuesday.

In Language class all grades started off by playing the movement game without seeing the words on the board.  Kitah Bet read and wrote words on the board related to Passover, Kitah Gimmel played a game where they had to pick the correct Hebrew spelling of words related to Passover, and Kitah Aleph took turns writing simple Hebrew Passover words. They finished class by watching a Shalom Sesame video of Grover and Avigayil trying to convince Moshe Oofnik to give them maror for their seder plate.

Finally, all students congregated in the main sanctuary with Rabbi Josh as they reviewed the Modeh Ani prayer that is said first thing every morning, showing our appreciation to God for restoring our bodies and all our normal functions.
