Welcome Back to Hebrew School!

This week we launched our Hebrew School year and welcomed students back with a fun-filled afternoon of activities! We kicked things off with a few songs with Morah Shana on guitar and Moreh Alex on clarinet, followed by some school-wide icebreakers like Human Bingo. We also introduced the nine new students in our Kitah Aleph class.

Morah Esther then led the Kitah Bet and Kitah Gimmel classes through a community-building exercise. Moreh Alex and Kitah Aleph sampled Spanish and Eastern European music, and explored how they influenced and shaped Jewish music.

To wrap up the day, the whole school came together in the main sanctuary, where Rabbi Josh welcomed everyone to the new school year. He explained how this year he was  going to teach them T’fillot (prayers) that are often sung in the synagogue.

It's not too late to register for Hebrew School for the year; contact [email protected] with any questions or register on our website!

What is Open Door Shabbat?

Shabbat morning is the best time for Jews to come together, and the WORST time to feel out of place in synagogue.

Join the ACI once a month for a no-experience-necessary Shabbat service, where we will explore the:

  • Structure of a prayer experience
  • Meaning behind key Jewish prayers
  • How to sing when you don't know Hebrew

At 10:00, there will be a brief meditation service, and at 10:30 we will start the learning service.

If you have any questions, contact Rabbi Josh at [email protected].

High Holiday Schedule and Tickets

Join us this October as we come together to celebrate the High Holidays—a time of reflection, renewal, and community. Tickets are now on sale on our website! Services are, as always, free for ACI members, and $36 per holiday for non-members and associate members.

Get Involved Planning ACI's Events!

We have a great roster of activities planned for the High Holidays and beyond, but we can always use more help and more ideas. If you're interested in helping to plan and run our community events, please join our standing Events Committee meetings, the second Tuesday of every month at 8pm (over Zoom). The next meeting will be next Tuesday night, September 10.

Reach out to [email protected] for the meeting link.

High Holiday Food Drive

ACI is once again supporting City Harvest's High Holidays Food Drive. From September 16 through October 21, we will be collecting non-perishable, Kosher foods at ACI. Look for the box in the lobby, and donate whatever you can to support our fellow New Yorkers in need.

Of particular need are shelf-stable, non-perishable Kosher sources of protein, such as: beans, nuts, sardines, salmon, tuna, and peanut butter.

Pastoral Requests

ACI is committed to serving our community’s needs. If you would like to add a name to our Mi Sheberach list, inform the synagogue about a hospital visit or death, or request pastoral care for yourself or someone you know, please fill out this simple form. All submissions are confidential.
