Last night, ACI and Malkhut joined together to bring Simchat Torah to life! We danced in the street in front of ACI, celebrating with live music and joy all around. Chag sameach to everyone!
|
And on Tuesday evening, ACI opened its Sukkah to the community! People gathered to share snacks, with some even bringing their own dinners, and enjoyed the unseasonably warm weather over pizza. The event also attracted new visitors to ACI from the neighborhood.
A huge thank you to Teddy and Angelo Katrakazos for lending us their yard, and to the Gershon/Stark family for the use their Sukkah. Thanks as well to Ari, Kivi, Ezra, and Joshua for helping with the setup, and to Joanna and Eric for taking down the Sukkah after the holiday.
We look forward to expanding our Sukkot programming next year!

We need your help to bring the blood drive to ACI!
|
We would like to bring the NY Blood Center to ACI for a blood drive on Sunday, November 24th, but we can only do it if we have enough help! We need 2-3 people who can commit to 2-3 hours between 12 and 6:30pm. Please reach out to Irene if you are able to help us in this crucial project.

This November, ACI will launch an intro to Judaism course called Pathways to Judaism. This is perfect for the person in your life who wants to learn about Judaism from the ground up, as well as significant people in your life who are of a religion other than Judaism (regardless of whether or not they are interested in conversion). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Rabbi Josh.
Classes will take place on Monday evenings at 8:00-9:30 p.m. ET on Zoom and once a month on Shabbat morning at ACI at 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Open Door Shabbat Calendar
|
Our Open Door Shabbat services are back once a month, starting in November! Upcoming dates are:
- November 9
- December 14
- January 11
- February 15
- March 8
- April 26
- May 10
- June 14
What is Open Door Shabbat?
Shabbat morning is the best time for Jews to come together, and the WORST time to feel out of place in synagogue.
Join the ACI once a month for a no-experience-necessary Shabbat service, where we will explore the:
- Structure of a prayer experience
- Meaning behind key Jewish prayers
- How to sing when you don't know Hebrew
At 10:00, there will be a brief meditation service, and at 10:30 we will start the learning service.
If you have any questions, contact Rabbi Josh at [email protected].

This Week in Hebrew School
|
This week, ACI’s students learned about the divine protection given to the Hebrews during their journey from Egypt to the Land of Israel, while residing in Succot (booths). They explored the significance of the four species—lulav, etrog, hadasim, and aravot—each representing different types of people who study Torah and perform mitzvot. These species also symbolize various parts of the human body: the lips, eyes, heart, and spine, reminding us to be mindful of our speech, actions, commitment to righteousness, and capacity for compassion. Lastly, they learned the blessings recited when holding the four species and when eating in the Sukkah.
Students also created decorations for their own Succot, which they can use to adorn their rooms. They learned about the Ushpizin, the seven revered guests from Jewish history who are said to visit Jewish homes during Sukkot. They also explored the holiday’s other names, including the Festival of Ingathering (Chag Ha’asif) and the Time of Our Happiness (Zman Simchateinu).

Get Involved Planning ACI's Events!
|
We have a great roster of activities planned for the High Holidays and beyond, but we can always use more help and more ideas. If you're interested in helping to plan and run our community events, please join our standing Events Committee meetings, the second Tuesday of every month at 8pm (over Zoom).
Reach out to [email protected] for the meeting link.
