Join Rabbi Josh for Weekly Pre-Shabbat Meditation on Zoom

Need a few moments of mindfulness at the end of your week?

Beginning November 8th, join Rabbi Josh each Friday for a weekly meditation from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. ET. You don't need any experience with meditation, and the experience is open to the community.

Each weekly meditation is free, but if you wish to to support ACI's programming, please consider making a 8 donation here.

Sign up to give blood on November 24!

Once again, the NY Blood Center will be bringing their mobile blood drive to ACI from 10:30-4:30 on Sunday, November 24. If you're able to donate, make an appointment now. If you can't give blood but are available to help out, email Litza.

Don't miss this opportunity to help save a life!

Donate Supplies to ACI from our Amazon Wishlist!

Programming at ACI takes a village of volunteers and a mountain of supplies! We invite you to consider making a donation to ACI via our Amazon Wishlist. Current highest needs items are disposable tablecloths for the social hall - which are used for everything from Kiddushim to protecting our tables during carnivals, crafts and more.

When checking out, select shipping to ACI Events Committee and items will be shipped and brought to ACI.
Expanding Our Hebrew School
ACI has experienced tremendous growth in our Hebrew School, and we are currently exploring increased offerings for children in the community. If you are a parent with school-age children, please fill out this short survey. The survey takes 6-8 minutes to complete.

Pathways to Judaism

This November, ACI will launch an intro to Judaism course called Pathways to Judaism. This is perfect for the person in your life who wants to learn about Judaism from the ground up, as well as significant people in your life who are of a religion other than Judaism (regardless of whether or not they are interested in conversion). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Rabbi Josh.

Classes will take place on Monday evenings at 8:00-9:30 p.m. ET on Zoom and once a month on Shabbat morning at ACI at 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Open Door Shabbat Calendar

Our Open Door Shabbat services are back once a month, starting in November! Upcoming dates are:

  • November 9
  • December 14
  • January 11
  • February 15
  • March 8
  • April 26
  • May 10
  • June 14

What is Open Door Shabbat?

Shabbat morning is the best time for Jews to come together, and the WORST time to feel out of place in synagogue.

Join the ACI once a month for a no-experience-necessary Shabbat service, where we will explore the:

  • Structure of a prayer experience
  • Meaning behind key Jewish prayers
  • How to sing when you don't know Hebrew

At 10:00, there will be a brief meditation service, and at 10:30 we will start the learning service.

If you have any questions, contact Rabbi Josh at [email protected].

This Week in Hebrew School

This week in Hebrew school, Kitah Alef and Bet students explored the Torah’s sequence and cycle, learning how it’s divided into the five books of Moses and segmented into parshiot (portions). They discussed the world’s creation from chaos and how the Torah cycle reflects renewal and hope. Kitah Gimmel reviewed the Torah cycle and the 24 books of the Tanach, reflected on the sanctuary as a place of worship and respect, and examined specific parshiot (portions) and psukim (verses).

In Hebrew language, Kitah Alef learned a new vowel sound with familiar letters (shin, bet, and tav), identified letters with the new vowel on the board, and practiced counting (echad, shtayim, and shalosh). Kitah Bet wrote letters with vowels, made letters with popsicle sticks, and wrote their names in Hebrew. Kitah Gimmel completed exercises in the Skill & Drill book, constructed sentences with vocabulary, and a few students demonstrated their progress at the board.

In Arts and Crafts, to mark the new Torah cycle, all classes created special Torah crafts, inscribing meaningful words, pictures, or principles inside their scrolls.

Finally, all students gathered in the main sanctuary, where Rabbi Josh taught them the prayers Modeh Ani, Oseh Shalom, and the Shema.

Get Involved Planning ACI's Events!

We have a great roster of activities planned, but we can always use more help and more ideas. If you're interested in helping to plan and run our community events, please join our standing Events Committee meetings, the second Tuesday of every month at 8pm (over Zoom).

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 12. Reach out to [email protected] for the meeting link.
