ACI Joins the Jewish Coalition for Criminal Justice Reform

We're pleased to announce that ACI has joined as a member organization of the New York Jewish Coalition for Criminal Justice Reform. Formed in 2019, NYJCCJR now includes 28 Jewish member organizations across New York City. They work in partnership with criminal justice reform organizations to amplify campaigns and advocate for change.

NYJCCJR supports member organizations and the Jewish community in exploring issues of justice and public safety through a lens of Jewish values, history, and teachings.

Sign up to give blood on November 24!

Once again, the NY Blood Center will be bringing their mobile blood drive to ACI from 10:30-4:30 on Sunday, November 24. If you're able to donate, make an appointment now. If you can't give blood but are available to help out, email Litza.

Don't miss this opportunity to help save a life!

Donate Supplies to ACI from our Amazon Wishlist!

Programming at ACI takes a village of volunteers and a mountain of supplies! We invite you to consider making a donation to ACI via our Amazon Wishlist. Current highest needs items are disposable tablecloths for the social hall - which are used for everything from Kiddushim to protecting our tables during carnivals, crafts and more.

When checking out, select shipping to ACI Events Committee and items will be shipped and brought to ACI.
Expanding Our Hebrew School
ACI has experienced tremendous growth in our Hebrew School, and we are currently exploring increased offerings for children in the community. If you are a parent with school-age children, please fill out this short survey. The survey takes 6-8 minutes to complete.

Pathways to Judaism

This November, ACI will launch an intro to Judaism course called Pathways to Judaism. This is perfect for the person in your life who wants to learn about Judaism from the ground up, as well as significant people in your life who are of a religion other than Judaism (regardless of whether or not they are interested in conversion). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Rabbi Josh.

Classes will take place on Monday evenings at 8:00-9:30 p.m. ET on Zoom and once a month on Shabbat morning at ACI at 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Open Door Shabbat Calendar

Our Open Door Shabbat services are back once a month, starting in November! Upcoming dates are:

  • December 14
  • January 11
  • February 15
  • March 8
  • April 26
  • May 10
  • June 14

What is Open Door Shabbat?

Shabbat morning is the best time for Jews to come together, and the WORST time to feel out of place in synagogue.

Join the ACI once a month for a no-experience-necessary Shabbat service, where we will explore the:

  • Structure of a prayer experience
  • Meaning behind key Jewish prayers
  • How to sing when you don't know Hebrew

At 10:00, there will be a brief meditation service, and at 10:30 we will start the learning service.

If you have any questions, contact Rabbi Josh at [email protected].

This Week in Hebrew School

In Hebrew, Kitah Aleph learned the words for “left” (s’mol), “right” (yemin), and the letters heh, reish, and vav with vowels that spell the word Torah. Kitah Bet reviewed vocabulary from two weeks ago, practiced the vowels patach and segol, and played a riddle game to guess vowel names. Kitah Gimmel learned the letter mem sofit and studied numbers in Hebrew.

In Judaic Studies, Kitah Aleph explored the weekly Torah portion and learned about the number of Torah and Haftarah portions and their connection. Kitah Bet and Gimmel selected random verses from the Chumash, identifying their Torah portions and connecting them to the week’s studies.

In Arts & Crafts, students chose to draw one of God’s creations—either a self-portrait, a classmate, or an animal (real or mythical). Some added final touches to their Torah scroll projects from the previous class.

Get Involved Planning ACI's Events!

We have a great roster of activities planned, but we can always use more help and more ideas. If you're interested in helping to plan and run our community events, please join our standing Events Committee meetings, the second Tuesday of every month at 8pm (over Zoom).

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, December 10. Reach out to [email protected] for the meeting link.
