Donate Supplies to ACI from our Amazon Wishlist!
|
Programming at ACI takes a village of volunteers and a mountain of supplies! We invite you to consider making a donation to ACI via our Amazon Wishlist. Current highest needs items are disposable tablecloths for the social hall - which are used for everything from Kiddushim to protecting our tables during carnivals, crafts and more.
When checking out, select shipping to ACI Events Committee and items will be shipped and brought to ACI.

This November, ACI launched an intro to Judaism course called Pathways to Judaism. This is perfect for the person in your life who wants to learn about Judaism from the ground up, as well as significant people in your life who are of a religion other than Judaism (regardless of whether or not they are interested in conversion). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Rabbi Josh.
Classes will take place on Monday evenings at 8:00-9:30 p.m. ET on Zoom and once a month on Shabbat morning at ACI at 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Open Door Shabbat Calendar
|
Our Open Door Shabbat services are back once a month, starting in November! Upcoming dates are:
- December 14
- January 11
- February 15
- March 8
- April 26
- May 10
- June 14
What is Open Door Shabbat?
Shabbat morning is the best time for Jews to come together, and the WORST time to feel out of place in synagogue.
Join the ACI once a month for a no-experience-necessary Shabbat service, where we will explore the:
- Structure of a prayer experience
- Meaning behind key Jewish prayers
- How to sing when you don't know Hebrew
At 10:00, there will be a brief meditation service, and at 10:30 we will start the learning service.
If you have any questions, contact Rabbi Josh at [email protected].

This Week in Hebrew School

Judaic Studies
This week, Kitah Aleph learned about the story of Noah’s Ark, focusing on how the raven and the dove behaved differently when sent to check if the floodwaters had receded, how the olive branch became a symbol of peace, and how the rainbow symbolizes God’s promise never to destroy the earth again. Students also learned a new song.
Kitah Bet explored the structure of the Tanach, which consists of 24 books divided into the Torah, Prophets, and Writings, collectively known as the Eytz Chayim (Tree of Life). They learned that the Torah is divided into 54 parshiot (weekly portions) read on Shabbat mornings, each made up of pesukim (verses).
Kitah Gimmel began a new unit on Jewish American history, focusing on how and when Jews arrived in America, including stories of immigration through Ellis Island. Students familiar with their family histories shared stories about their immigrant grandparents. They then used a world map to pin their ancestors’ countries of origin.
Hebrew Language
In Kitah Aleph, students practiced sounding out the word bracha (blessing), breaking it down by letters and vowels written on the board. They also reviewed the numbers learned two weeks ago and added the Hebrew words for 7, 8, 9, and 10.
Kitah Bet reviewed all vowel sounds in combination with the letter yud and wrote words beginning with that letter on the board.
Kitah Gimmel revisited some of the brachot they learned last year, practiced Hebrew writing, and worked on words with missing letters and vowels.
Arts and Crafts
In connection with the concept of B’tzelem Elohim—that all people are created in the image of God—students in all classes learned how to create contour line drawings inspired by Alexander Calder.
And finally, students were treated to Israeli dancing by Camp Ramah from 5:15-5:45, followed by a pizza party!

Get Involved Planning ACI's Events!
|
We have a great roster of activities planned, but we can always use more help and more ideas. If you're interested in helping to plan and run our community events, please join our standing Events Committee meetings, the second Tuesday of every month at 8pm (over Zoom).
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, December 10. Reach out to [email protected] for the meeting link.
