This week in Hebrew School, students rotated through a dynamic four-station Purim program, guided by our dedicated teachers and volunteers.
At the Jeopardy station, students divided into teams, competing for bragging rights as they demonstrated their Purim knowledge. The game challenged them to recall lessons from class (and even from last year), with categories including People, Customs, Trivia, Numbers, and Surprise Me.
At the Mishloach Manot station, students explored the significance of this Purim mitzvah of sending gift baskets. After a brief discussion, they decorated and filled bags with fruit, juice, cheese, crackers, chocolate, and hamantaschen to give to siblings, friends, or parents.
In the Matanot L'evyonim station, students learned about the mitzvah of giving to those in need. They designed and decorated tzedakah boxes, which they will fill with spare change throughout the year, reinforcing the spirit of generosity.
At the hamantaschen baking station, volunteers guided children as they rolled and shaped dough, filling their pastries with strawberry, poppy seed, fig, or raspberry jam. Thanks to a dedicated parent, the hamantaschen were baked to perfection. Each child took home their freshly baked treats—though some couldn't resist indulging right away!
Some Kitah Aleph and Bet students also enjoyed a few rounds of the Matching game, testing their memory of Purim-themed images.
To conclude, the entire school gathered to sing spirited Purim songs, accompanied by Morah Shana on keyboard. Rabbi Josh then captivated students with a special presentation of Megillat Esther on parchment. He read select excerpts, encouraging students to make noise at the mention of a certain infamous person's name.
It was a joyful celebration of Purim, filled with learning, laughter, hands-on experiences, and the aroma of freshly baked hamantaschen!
