Our Book Monster Is Hungry for Your PJ Library Books!

PJ Library—the organization that sends free Jewish storybooks to children in Queens and around the world every month—is partnering with us this summer for a special book drop!

Do you have PJ Library books at home that your kids have outgrown?

Please drop them off in ACI's lobby between July 11 and July 20. You may bring your books to the center Sunday through Friday from 9:30am to 1pm; ring the doorbell to come in and drop off.

Your gently used books will go on to spark Jewish joy for another family—while making space on your shelves for new stories!

This year, we celebrate Ari Gershon and Litza Stark, both of them longtime members and volunteers at ACI. Ari, a past President (2022-2024) and long-term Education Chair, has dedicated over a decade to overseeing Hebrew-school programming while working to maintain and modernize our synagogue. Litza, a current Board member, has modernized the Center's communications, organized family-friendly programming, and participated in social justice activities.

Join us in honoring their commitment to ACI at our Anniversary Journal service on Friday, June 20, 2025.

The Journal is ACI's major fundraiser supporting our aging building, religious services, and multi-generational programs. In these times of increasing antisemitism, supporting Jewish spaces like ACI is crucial.

Submit your ads and tributes by May 30, 2025, either online at astoriacenter.org/journal-order or via the our paper form. Contact Elysa at [email protected] with questions.

ACI Torah Reading Academy

Haven't read Torah since your B'Mitzvah?

Feel OK with your Hebrew reading, but want to learn to read Torah?

This summer, join Rabbi Josh for an online Shabbat morning class to get a crash course on learning how to read Torah. At the conclusion of the course each student in the class will be able to read a Torah portion with 3-5 verses at a date TBD.

Note: The class is designed for adults who want to learn or relearn to read Torah.

The course will be held via Zoom from 10:00 am-11:00 am ET on:
  1. July 12, 2025
  2. July 19, 2025
  3. July 26, 2025
  4. August 2, 2025
Participants will be provided a Zoom link upon registration. While the class is free for all participants, there is a suggested donation of $36 to ACI.

Please fill out this short form.
