This Shabbat: Something for Everyone
|
Whether you're brand new to synagogue or you've davened a thousand times, bring the whole family this Saturday! Rabbi Josh will be leading Open Door Shabbat, our monthly service where we slow down to explore the structure, meaning, and melodies of our prayers together.
Newcomers get a welcoming entry point (no Hebrew required!), and regulars get the chance to share in a close reading and intimate discussion about parts of the service we usually move through more quickly.
Plus: Tot Shabbat for our youngest members, Junior Congregation for older kids, and a potluck dairy Kiddush after services.
Come for whatever speaks to you, stay for good company and good food! Contributions of pareve/dairy food are welcomed but not required; please sign up here if you plan to bring something.

The annual Golden Fest, a two-night extravaganza of traditional music and dancing from the Balkans and beyond, is coming back to the Marquee Astoria (formerly Astoria World Manor) on January 16 and 17! Among the 50+ performers, there will be klezmer bands, music in Yiddish and Ladino, and other traditional music from around the Jewish world.
Join us at ACI at 5:30 on January 17 for wine and light snacks, after which we'll make havdalah and walk over to the venue to enjoy the music. Tickets for the festival are available on the Golden Fest website; please RSVP to Litza if you plan to join us at ACI beforehand!

This Week in Hebrew School
|
This week in Hebrew School, the shared theme across all classes was Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). Students explored what it means to take responsibility, act with kindness, and help make the world a better place through meaningful actions of all kinds.
Kitah Adom focused on simple acts of kindness such as sharing, helping a friend, and caring for their surroundings. Kitah Katom explored acts of giving, respect for others, caring for the environment, and how these actions connect to mitzvot and good deeds. They made cards for older DOROT adults. Kitah Tzahov engaged in deeper discussions about community responsibility, volunteering, standing up for others, and how Jewish values guide real-world action. Kitah Yarok moved from values to action by identifying issues they care about—such as hunger, bullying, and environmental concerns—and thinking about realistic steps they can take to make a difference.
Through hands-on activities including acting/theater, creative projects, and group discussions, students reflected on how each of us can participate in Tikkun Olam in our everyday lives.
