Open Door Shabbat

Shabbat morning is the best time for Jews to come together, and the WORST time to feel out of place in synagogue.

Join the ACI once a month for a no-experience-necessary Shabbat service, where we will explore the:

  • Structure of a prayer experience
  • Meaning behind key Jewish prayers
  • How to sing when you don't know Hebrew

Don't know Hebrew? No problem!

Skeptical about religion? We'd love to have you!

Haven't gone to synagogue since your Bar/Bat Mitzvah? You're perfect!

Join us from 10:30 am until noon on March 16, April 13, May 11, and June 22. At 10:00, there will be a brief meditation service, and at 10:30 we will start the learning service.

If you have any questions, contact Rabbi Josh at [email protected].

Attendance at all sessions is not required; sign up at the link below.

This Week In Hebrew School

In Music class, Kitah Aleph rehearsed their Chag (holiday) Purim song that they will perform at the Purim Carnival on March 24. They also decorated their crowns, and read the rest of the Purim story that they started last week. Kitah Bet sang Purim songs and acted out the story of Purim, following scripts. Kitah Gimmel learned Purim songs, and competed in teams to try and solve a Purim riddle.

In Judaic Studies, Kitah Aleph learned a short version of the Purim story, using finger puppets. Kitah Bet students continued learning the lyrics to a Purim song that they’ll be performing at the Purim Carnival.

Kitah Gimmel students were assigned characters from the Megillah, and re-enacted highlights from the story.

In Hebrew Language class, all three grades started with a fast-paced, slightly more difficult version of the “Simon Omer” (Simon Says) game, to test their memory for the Hebrew words for stand, sit, jump, run, dance, and stop. Kitah Bet and Kitah Gimmel then continued working on their reading, pronunciation, and writing of Hebrew words.

Kitah Aleph continued where they left off in their books. They started applying vowels to the letters that they already know, and watched another entertaining video that taught students words that begin with the letter Gimmel.

In our small-group Hebrew language instruction, students began practicing writing the letters Bet, Shin, and Tav, which together spell the word Shabbat.

Finally, the students congregated in the main sanctuary with Rabbi Josh, who explained the tradition of increasing our festive celebrations during the month of Adar. He then proceeded to lead a Conga line of children through the entire building, while singing a Purim song.
