Two guest speakers will be featured at this week’s Open Door Shabbat in honor of Pride Month.

On Shabbat morning, we will hear from Karina Escamilla and Zeena Hazuri from the Latino Commission on AIDS. The commission mobilizes an effective community response to meet the health challenges and address the impact of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis & STIs in communities nationwide. Karina and Zeena will speak about how our congregation and others can be supportive allies of the LGBTQ Community. These speakers are being made possible by a partnership with the Unity Project of Mayor Eric Adams’ Office of Equity.

Our speakers will present starting around 11:00 a.m. ET. As always, for Open Door Shabbat, we will begin with a meditation service at 10:00 a.m. ET and start our formal service at 10:30 a.m. ET.

Rabbi Joshua Rabin wrote to the congregation: “Rabbi Daniel Burg, rabbi of Beth Am Synagogue and one of my rabbinic mentors, taught me that a synagogue must always aspire to be “in and of the community.” ACI tries every day to make sure that LGBTQ Jews know that our congregation is a spiritual home for them, and yet there is a much bigger community out there that we need to support.”
